The Szigetköz is a plain region in Western Hungary, part of the Little Hungarian Plain (Kisalföld). The name literally means island alley, because the territory is located on an island. Its borders are the Danube and the Moson-Danube. Dunakiliti is situated in the Nothern Region, in the vicinity of the Old-Danube. Dunakiliti is situated at the same distance from the Slovakian border station, and from Mosonmagyaróvár (approx. 8-10 km).
Dunakiliti is one of the entrance-gates to Hungary, though only a few people use this gate. It even got its name from the Turkish word ‘kilit’ for key. It’s worth knocking, as the small village with only 1840 inhabitants has exceptional sights to visit.
The Roman Catholic church built in neo-gothic style of the municipality is well worth seeing, with its colourful window panes, the former German villa, the parish hall, the Pagan castle and the dam weir.
Popular free time activities are: going for a ride, trips by horse carriage into the islands of Szigetköz. In Dunakiliti an eight hole golf course is expecting all golf lovers. Szigetköz has a rich stock of game, so you can hunt for roe deers, deers and wild boars.
